Testimonials

"Internet Crime has become a tremendous problem in our society.   TRUE CRIME ONLINE gives real examples of Internet Crime from the investigation by law enforcement authorities through to the court deposition. You have a wonderful idea that should definitely help students interested in Internet Crime and it will be a useful tool for practitioners investigating these crimes." Dr. Henry C. Lee, CT Forensic Science Laboratory, Meriden, CT

"Most people think the internet is a benign place where they shop, surf for entertainment, and contact their friends. In this drawn-from-life collection of fascinating, instructive, and terrifying stories, this cyber-savvy expert takes readers on a trip through the dark side of the net. Frightening, eye-opening, and ultimately hopeful, this book is a must read for anyone who spends a lot of time in cyberspace, for parents of children innocently surfing the net, and for anyone considering an on-line date." Kate Flora, award-winning mystery author

"Few people can write about cybercrime with the authority of J.A. Hitchcock.  As both an expert -- and once a victim -- of such crimes, she knows how to present the latest information with gripping style, and her earlier book, NET CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS, was a treasure trove of information that was both fascinating and invaluable."  Tess Gerritsen, New York Times-bestselling author of KEEPSAKE

"Ms. Hitchcock has proven to be an invaluable resource in the area of cyber investigations. Her work is clear, concise and evocative. I feel that it would have been impossible to move forward with development in our investigative ability in the area of cyber crimes without Ms. Hitchcock's assistance in laying the ground work. Her training should be the first stop on the list of anyone attempting to better understand cyber stalking in specific and cyber related crimes in general." Detective Michael R. Grigsby, Somerset Police Department, Somerset, KY

"I saw you speak at a conference at Hilbert College in Hamburg NY for an Economic Crime Investigation conference. It was pouring rain that day, and we all got soaked coming over from the dining hall to the lecture hall. I remember that your pants were soaked up to your knees, but you gave a great talk anyway and certainly made a lasting impression on me. I was still in college then and sought out a career with the federal government fighting cyber crime." FBI Special Agent Susan Lupiani
NCC Cybersecurity Conference

  • Great workshop!
  • Jayne was so knowledgeable - great safety tips!
  • She is a great fund of information about the Internet - very bright and fun to hear
  • Excellent information and speaking!
  • Great application for child porn cases.
  • Though a lot was over my head, I learned several good pointers! From two one-day hands-on workshops sponsored by the Connecticut State Police
  • Gave valuable tools for identifying the bad guys.
  • I'm extremely computer illiterate. This class helped me find where to go to get answers to many questions I had and would have in the future.
  • This course helped me to fine-tune my knowledge of online crimes. I have several cases that needed this info.
  • This workshop definitely helped me. . .practical things that will actually be used.
  • The hands-on portion was very helpful. I now have a better idea of how to assist the public when complaints are brought to the police.
  • I've had a smattering of 'hit-and-run' training on the topics covered today. It was nice to have the lesson delivered in an organized way from start to finish.

Middle/high schools and universities/colleges:

"After Jayne's program, several students came up to our staff and told us how much they enjoyed it and that they were going straight to their Facebook pages to take off all the information and photos that would help someone locate them. We thoroughly enjoyed her and hope to bring her back in the near future."
- Gretchen Edwards-Bodmer, Old Dominion University, Women's Center

"What she was able to share about each student presented a solid case that many people today must be more careful about the personal information they disclose online. I highly recommend Jayne Hitchcock to those interested in protecting their students and staff members from Internet crime."
- William A. Edmonds, Dean of Admissions, California University of Pennsylvania

"Jayne was phenomenal.  I have not been this impressed by a speaker in a very long time.  She blew people away...every school needs to bring her in."
- SUNY -- Delhi

"Jayne is dynamic and kept the audience's attention, and gets the point across without sounding like a drill sergeant."
- Connie J. Kirkland, SASC, George Mason University

β€œIt is with great pleasure that I recommend Jayne Hitchcock as a speaker for online security issues in schools. By using information about students in the audience that she had looked up online, and showing how easily someone can find more information, she made an immediate and lasting impression on the students. My son attended the high school at the time Jayne spoke – he and his friends were talking about the presentation days later. It was exactly what we were hoping for.”
- Mike Marvin, Assistant Professor, Jamestown Community College, Olean, NY

"Your presentation helped the students learn safe ways to navigate the Internet and how to protect themselves from hackers. The information provided was informative."
- Malinda Cowles, Associate Director, Indiana University of Pennsylvania

"Thank you for your very informative presentation to our middle school students. The message was clear and made the students aware of their internet safety responsibilities. Several teachers passed on to me that the students were discussing the presentation and were going home to change settings and clean up their accounts. This is exactly what we wanted the students to get out of the presentation,"

Jo Anne Sizemore, Principal, Scarborough Middle School, Maine

"Often, when adults try to educate teens about online safety, the message fails to make it past the yawns and 'rolling eyes.' We were very pleased with the way you captured the attention of students and effectively communicated strategies to our students. Besides students and faculty telling me you were a great speaker, a real sign of success for me is the number of students who later reported to me that they had changed their online behavior as a result of your talk," Christopher Gibson, Kents Hill School, Maine

"Jayne was very effective in engaging the auditorium full of 800 high school students. By using information about students in the audience that she had looked up online, and showing how easily someone can find more, she made an immediate and lasting impression on the students. It was exactly what we were hoping for," Mike Marvin, Olean High School, New York

"Your presentation was tailored nicely to the groups of students with which you spoke. For the upper school you were powerful and to the point; for the middle school, you were appropriately informative discussing some of the ways to avoid cyberbullying and how to modify their use of web sites such as Myspace in order to stay safe on the internet. I wholeheartedly recommend you as a presenter to students, parents and faculty and I look forward to continuing to use you as a resource," Paul C. Errickson, North Yarmouth Academy, Maine

"Jayne engaged the children on their level and really made them think about what could happen if they did not take their Internet safety seriously. She even tweaked her presentation the night before, after her long flight in, based on something I had mentioned about the school when I drove her to her hotel. I would wholeheartedly recommend Jayne Hitchcock to give talks to a wide variety of audiences on all topic of computer safety," Heather Ford, Junior Auxiliary of Columbus, on behalf of Lee Middle School and Heritage Academy, Columbus, Mississippi

"In each of Jayne's sessions, she was informative, easy to relate with, and brutally honest with students and parents alike in warning of the dangers of cyberbullying and safety online. We especially liked that she kept making the point that 'it can happen to you' and was able to show students live examples of just how easy it is for someone to find out information about you on the internet," David Fournier, SAD #46 Technology Coordinator, Dexter, Maine
